Focus

Making the film is an attractive proposition to young people, but it is not a soft option, as each project involves focused work, with rotation of roles in the film making process.

Using interactive workshops, MCN encourages participants to share life experience as the basis for developing the project, encouraging them to interview a wide catchment of people, including experts, teachers, family and friends.

This ensures representation of all relevant viewpoints and a balanced result, with an overall positive influence due to the shared nature of the end product.

The project will often also facilitate dialogue between people or peer groups who would be unlikely otherwise to talk to eachother. The added ingredient of comedy enables issues to be explored in a non-threatening way and can invoke further interaction with parents and the wider community because of mainstream appeal.

An MCN project is not specifically aimed at those with special needs, although it can suit a range of abilities from primary to college.

In appropriate cases it might be the means by which 'problem' young people can gain access back into the core system, since the film wil show what each participant is capable of achieving, dispelling previously-held views.
